7 Tips on How to Prepare for a Waxing Service

Hair removal by waxing can seem like a daunting affair. But if you take your time to prepare for your appointment, you will have a comfortable experience. Preparation ensures that hair removal is smooth and leaves you with bare skin.

How do you prepare?

Check Yourself

Check the waxing area for rashes, broken skin, or inflammation. It is not advisable to get the waxing service if you have any of these. It will aggravate the issue and leave you in pain. Also, inform your waxing technician at BL Spa if you have a skin tag, mole, or other skin problems. It will help them be careful around that area.

Schedule Wisely

There are certain times of the month when you do not want to schedule a waxing appointment. Your menstrual cycle is one of those times. Your skin tends to be extra sensitive, and the experience can cause more discomfort than necessary.

Prepare Your Skin

Exfoliate and give your body a good scrub 48 hours before your appointment. It removes all dead skin cells, and all the hair breaks through the skin. Make sure you use a mild exfoliant to avoid any skin breaks.

Take a warm shower or a bath right before your appointment. It will help you feel fresh. It also softens your pores, making the actual process less painful.

Choose What to Wear

Waxing can irritate your skin. Tight clothing can also cause friction that makes your skin red. You may also wind up with ingrown hair. To avoid this, steer clear of such clothing by planning a loose-fitting outfit. It will allow your skin to breathe and reduce moisture.

Avoid Triggers

Taking coffee, alcohol, or exercising on the day of your waxing appointment can increase your blood circulation. The increase causes discomfort during the waxing process since the skin becomes sensitive.

Dry skin is also a trigger for pain. So, make sure you hydrate and moisturize. Your best bet for effective results is to make sure that you drink eight glasses of water daily. Give particular attention to this during cold months. Also, make sure that your moisturizer is light and does not clog your pores.

Take a Pain Reliever

You can take a pain reliever 30 to 45 minutes before your appointment. Make sure it does not have aspirin since it increases blood flow. The blood flow increase will make your skin more sensitive during the waxing process.

Grow Out Your Hair

To get the best results from the waxing service, you need to grow your hair. Avoid shaving between appointments. Give up the razor at least six to seven days before if you find it hard to stay without shaving. Allow your hair to grow out to the length of a rice grain.

If your hair is too short, the wax will not grab it. Therefore, not all of it will come out. It makes the waxing process more painful and less effective. It is also good to note that the technician may have to tweeze any hair leftover. The process can be painful, so ask and prepare beforehand.
